SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Despite the hot housing market, keeping a homeowners insurance policy in force and affordable can be a tricky proposition.

As insurance companies coped with the aftermath of natural disasters
and a growing number of mold-related claims in the last few years, many
passed on their financial pain by either jacking up premiums or
canceling policies altogether.

And for you selling agents, you might want to write a contingency into your offers specifying that the buyer must be able to obtain insurance on the property.
