Believe It Or Not, A Friend Gave Me This One
Remember these?
Ericsson is better known for whizbang cell phones these days, but once upon a time they challenged the black boredom of mighty Ma Bell with the Ericofon.
By the way, if you've got one that's faded a bit, here's a guy who will tell you how to restore it. As well as a lot more about Ericofons in general, which is about what you'd expect from a joint that calls itself ericofon.com, right?
UPDATE: Sweet mother of gawd!
UPDATE: And even more: here.

OMG! We had an Ericofon! Ours was white.
During the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1994, my parents' house was badly damaged. The Ericofon was in the basement office. Even after phone service was restored, it took a week for my parents to get their phone service back, because that darned Ericofon had fallen over on its side, going "off-hook" (the switchhook is in the base), and they couldn't get through the debris and down the basement stairs to hang it back up!
Hmm, I wonder if my mom still has it? Probably... I come from a long and distinguished line of pack-rats. :-)
