Strategy irony: Obama declares ‘National Preparedness Month,’ ‘PrepareAthon’ |

“Emergencies — from hurricanes and wildfires to cyber and terrorist attacks — can strike anywhere at any time. Americans should be familiar with local threats and hazards and take steps to reduce their devastating impacts. Families should assemble a disaster supplies kit well in advance and have a plan to reconnect after a tragedy,” said the proclamation.

He also announced an “America’s PrepareAthon!” drill for September 30 for Americans to show they are ready for the worst.

My advice would be that if you have significant emergency preparations, you not “show” them to anybody.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. I live in the part of the U.S. East Coast often less-than-fondly referred to as “Hurricane Alley”, and have done so since the late 90’s – “disaster/emergency preparedness” has been an inherent, fully-integrated mode for me and all of my nearby-dwelling family for well over two decades. We have no need whatsoever for any “Executive declaration” – much less one of Barky’s lame-ass attempts at distraction from pertinent matters as we approach election-time, nor any of his equally lame-ass “show us yours, and we’ll show you ours where you’re wrong” crapulation – to have already established, and to frequently review and seek to improve, our “disaster awareness” plans and preps.

And no, we’ve no interest in communicating just what those plans and preps look like to any Gubment “authorities” at any level, on September 30 or at any other time.
