It is really getting difficult to be a patriotic American.
I am required to believe at the very same time that terrorists hate me because of my freedom, and that if I look at a video of terrorists beheading innocents then I am a terrorist.
The strange thing is, I’ve never looked at a beheading video. I don’t need to see it to know that is a shitty way to die. I’ve never seen “The Passion of the Christ”. I know that being scourged with whips and nailed to a cross is a shitty way to die. I’ve never watched one of those war porn videos showing a .50 cal hitting a jihadi in the head, it bothers me enough to see what a .30-’06 does to a whitetail. I don’t rubberneck at the scene of a car wreck, I grew up living in an auto junkyard, and I’ve seen enough head-shaped holes in windshields with hair and blood still attached.
I’ve got too much imagination, or too good a grasp on reality, one or the other. Neither one makes me an unpatriotic citizen, though.
