Another Blurp From the Well of Hot Gas

And now, some words of wisdom from Andrew WK « Hot Air

The world isn’t being destroyed by democrats or republicans, red or blue, liberal or conservative, religious or atheist — the world is being destroyed by one side believing the other side is destroying the world. The world is being hurt and damaged by one group of people believing they’re truly better people than the others who think differently. The world officially ends when we let our beliefs conquer love. We must not let this happen…

When we truly believe that some people are monsters, that they fundamentally are less human than we are, and that they deserve to have less than we do, we ourselves become the monsters…

Many of you will likely disagree with Andrew WK and my lauding of his philosophy, but I loathe the idea of a world where my every relationship and every decision is governed by adherence to my political ideology.

Here’s your heaping helping of kumbaya bullshit from yet another Hot Gasser.

Do I become a monster if I believe that the guy running Boko Haram is a monster?  Do I become a monster if I believe that Taliban fanatics who maim and kill innocent children for the crime of trying to get an education are monsters?

Look.  If you think everybody but you is a monster, then yes, you likely have some problems.  But if you’re a sap-headed ninny who can’t recognize real monsters when you see them, then you have even bigger problems.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. The ones he stated are false dichotomies and the conclusions about “monsters” and “fundamentally are less human” are strawman arguments. I conclude that they are wrong.

How about Progressive Anti-Capitalist Anti-Constitutionalist vs Classical Liberal, Pro-Capitalist Constitutionalist.

    Or even Statist vs Individualist.

The vast majority or dem/rep, blue/red, etc don’t even understand what the terms mean. They’re just rooting for a “team” to win or looking for their free lunch.

Also, religious vs atheists are easily solved by Federalism and reasonable separation of Church and State.

The real battle is between a much smaller group that use these lo info voters as useful idiots to entrench their own positions of power, unearned money, perks and other corruptions vs those that want to expand the pie by expanding freedom.

It is so obvious that Free Market Capitalist society has driven the Industrial, Information and Knowledge Revolutions which have alleviated poverty for more people than any other system ever. The fact that it has made some people unbelievably wealthy simultaneously has been used as a hammer for reactionaries to use to beat us over the heads as often as possible. It is also obvious that Socialism breeds more poverty, more tyranny and less liberty.

I do not “believe” the other side is destroying the world. The facts support that conclusion. From a big picture perspective, whether they are doing this through innocent error, idiocy or by design doesn’t necessarily matter because the results are the same. However, as to neutralizing it one must understand the different motivations involved.

One thing is for certain. The two systems are incompatible. It is either one or the other and there is no “middle ground” in which we are “a little bit pregnant”. By definition, unless you are blind to this fact that moderation is not possible, each side of this debate must be opposed to the other side.
