Venezuela blackout leaves commuters scrambling, silences president – Yahoo News

CARACAS (Reuters) – A blackout cut power to much of Venezuela on Friday, snarling traffic in the capital Caracas and other major cities as authorities scrambled to restore electricity after the outage, which twice interrupted a presidential broadcast.

Pedestrians streamed into the streets of Caracas as the blackout shuttered the underground metro trains and left frustrated drivers honking in the chaos without stoplights.

Enjoy your commie paradise, you suicidal tools.  Enjoy it good and hard.

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. A couple times I’ve done traffic control when a traffic light was out or there was an accident. That was here in the generally orderly and generally self-starting US. I wonder if it occurred to anyone in Caracas to walk into the intersection and start directing traffic to get it moving again. And if anyone did so, would it do any good or would he be ignored or shot?

    • Given how poorly most of the rest of the world seems to drive, I doubt it ever occurred to anyone.

Here in Texas people spontaneously treat an out traffic light as a 4-way stop. (I’ve seen it the other places I’ve lived, but usually less well-behaved.)
