Not doubling down might indicate that he’d made a mistake of some sort, and in the world of Barack “The Divine One” Obama, such a thing is impossible – not just admitting error, but even making a mistake in the first place.

If Obama ever said that the sun rises in the west, and got called on the mistake, he would  claim that the naysaying was all a racist Republican plot.  Because racism.
