Nearly 80 percent of New York City high school graduates need to relearn basic skills before they can enter the City University’s community college system.

In its defense, the NYC Department of Education said it has raised high school graduation rates by 40 percent over the last seven years.
The purpose of a school is to teach, not to be a diploma mill. Obviously NYC isn’t getting much for it’s $20,276.00 per student.
Maybe Bloomberg should quit worrying about the size of sodas and bring in someone to do some radical cutting to the school system staff, including teachers.
In sheer numbers it means that nearly 11,000 kids who got diplomas from city high schools
needed remedial courses to re-learn the basicscouldn’t read them..
