Until Then, Never the Twain Shall Meet

FRIENDLY TALK BETWEEN TEA PARTY AND MOVEON: “It’s possible because there is more common ground between left and right in this country than you might think.”

Frankly, I’m unimpressed. You may be able to raise my interest if you can somehow convince me “progressives” aren’t absolutely certain that the only cure for bad government is more government.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. That article was the silliest thing I’ve read all week. Sure, you can find some leftists who don’t like the Drug War, but that’s the only issue in the article where there was genuine overlap in positions.

So neither side likes trillion dollar deficits? Well, yeah, neither does anyone outside the ruling class, but that says nothing about the preferred policies for doing something about them. When the MoveOn guys list all the huge spending cuts they are willing to make, and support dramatic reform of Medicare and SS to reduce costs, get back to me.

Same with the blather about education. The article says “How many of you think we have the premier education system in the world, where the dollars and are efforts are focused on our kids?” Nobody in their right mind would think that, but I’m willing to bet dollars to used toothpicks that the MoveOn crowd isn’t ready to stand up to teachers’ unions, which is an absolutely required step to do anything about it.

And it’s topped off with blather about unnecessary paperwork. So where does much of that paperwork come from? Regulation out the wazoo, which the MoveOn crowd is just peachy with.

Please, please, people on the right, read this stuff for what it is: a distraction by the usual statists meant to make squishy righties feel better about themselves.
