“When you all go home and you’re talking to your buddies and you say, ah ‘He wants to take my gun away.’ You’ve heard it here, I’m on television so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.”

About nemo paradise

Nemo has been perversely fascinated by finance since emergence from college as an English major with little or no math. His opinions, analysis and observations are generally subjective, and employ vast amounts of quantitative analysis the same way that an elephant turns savannahs into useful energy, with impressive piles of dung as a by-product. Nemo has been professionally employed in the trading and analysis of and commentary on financial markets since 1972. Nemo makes no short-term predictions, except when seized by caprice. The future is inherently unknowable, but is subject to analysis. Very, very infrequently, this analysis uncovers situations where outcomes are not random over the longer term. And, as you can tell, Nemo is a smug son of a bitch who has learned from his mistakes to guard his projections very, very carefully, but has no hesitation in attacking like a starving wolverine the misconceptions, idiotic assumptions and howling fallacies that financial pundits offer with stunning frequency.

  1. Of course it was Obama.

The Big Trick of Politics: People want to be sophisticated in (what passes for) their thinking. They have been sold that lying is just a part of the politician’s job. Lying used to be seen as a despicable action which immoral politicians used against the gullible. Now, it is an honor to be known for lying really well.

Obama convinced some on the Right and many of the Independents that he was telling them the truth about what they wanted to hear, while not being serious about what they disliked. He had to guard against the creeping realization by everyone that he will lie about anything. So what if he is a liar, he is President anyway.

  2. Because people believe in the healing power of Unicorn Farts, the Free Lunch Economic School, the Guns Run Around Shooting People theory, Global Wormening, Global Climate Change, Global Equality of Outcomes, Marxism in all its forms as a workable economic system, Keynesianism without the good times pay back part of it, the African Give Them a Fish Aid Theory, etc ad infinitum, ad nauseum…

  3. No problemo:

    1) “Oh, hey! It’s not me doing this! It’s the the will of the majority!! The American people are demanding this!! Why, all the polls say so!!…”

    2) “King’s X! Had my fingers crossed (behind me) when I said that…”

    Your choice –

Tried to tell everyone for – what? – over five years now (and counting)…He’s The Flim-Flam Man writ complete, the capo di tutti capi of the Big Con, the less-skilled, less-intelligent but golden-tongued and thorough-going natural successor to Slick Willie Clintoon (who was somewhat handicapped by raging libido and rampant Good-Old-Boyism, two flaws that The Obmanation has never apparently demonstrated).

He is the first Affirmative Action politico in U.S. history to take full advantage of his “ethnic” minority social status, bending and converting it – along with ruthless indifference to any and all not bent likewise totally in his favor – into political armor against defeat.*

The Big Lie is what he does – it’s what he is!!

How could anyone – “friend” or foe – expect otherwise?

(*Tragically, it’s unlikely he will be the only one to achieve this)

Update: Make no mistake – while, by any reasonably logical and even-handed reading of the facts, B. H. Obama must be reckoned as the worst single POTUS in our history (he’s now substantially exceeded ol’ Jimmuh Cahtah, the previous leader in that status), he will most certainly be judged in future to be one of the most significant and influential political figures of our Nation’s history.
