Mystery of Rising Black Unemployment Solved!

Unemployment Rises for Women, African-Americans in December | CNS News

Unemployment for women rose to 7.3 percent in December from 7.0 percent while the rate for African-Americans rose sharply to 14.0 percent from 13.2 percent in November.
Unemployment among African Americans has remained quite high throughout the sluggish economic recovery of the past several years, despite the steady decline in overall unemployment in the economy generally.

Yeah, that’s quite a mystery, isn’t it, especially with those cooked Obama numbers coming out of the Bureau of Lies and Statistics showing a “steady decline in overall unemployment,” eh?

Or…maybe real unemployment hasn’t been falling at all, and, in fact, has been rising ever since Obama took office:

Alternate Unemployment Charts

The seasonally-adjusted SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate reflects current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. That estimate is added to the BLS estimate of U-6 unemployment, which includes short-term discouraged workers.

The U-3 unemployment rate is the monthly headline number. The U-6 unemployment rate is the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) broadest unemployment measure, including short-term discouraged and other marginally-attached workers as well as those forced to work part-time because they cannot find full-time employment.

You think that might account for it?

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. That’s why I posted the explanation. The difference between what SGS does, and the tripe cooked up by the BLS, is that SGS doesn’t “disappear” millions of workers simply because they go off the unemployment benefits rolls, or can’t find a job within some artificial time limit.

How many times have you heard, “If the work force was as large today as it was when Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be (some outrageously high figure)?

The SGS line shows the U6 based on the real size of the work force, not the “adjusted” size.
