theCL Report: Year of Living Dangerously

A long look back in another gigantic libertarian link roundup from theCL.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. The Year of Living Dangerously was a great movie. Indonesia, with its oil, other natural resources and strategic location was about to go Communist. The various covert ops trying to achieve or prevent that outcome came together in a very violent, very anarchic civil war in which friend, enemy, neutral, commie, fascist, US backed, commie backed etc people were totally blurred. Parallel to the US actions in Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia (including Singapore, which we eventually backed “Mr. Truman Show” Lee Kwan Yiu”) were the real “dominoes” we desperately needed to protect.

Watch the early Mel Gibson movie and start to think about our strategic objectives in SE Asia. Keep in mind Australia!
