Smithsonian Christmas-Season Exhibit Features Ant-Covered Jesus, Naked Brothers Kissing, Genitalia, and Ellen DeGeneres Grabbing Her Breasts |

( — The federally funded National Portrait Gallery, one of the museums of the Smithsonian Institution, is currently showing an exhibition that features images of an ant-covered Jesus, male genitals, naked brothers kissing, men in chains, Ellen DeGeneres grabbing her breasts, and a painting the Smithsonian itself describes in the show’s catalog as “homoerotic.”

You think you’re so “transgressive,” so “daring,” so “cutting edge,” you cheap-ass poseur pieces of shit?

I’ll show you daring. I’ll show you cutting edge.

Switch out your ant-drenched Jesus for an ant-riddled Mohammed.

Go ahead, you gutless, cowardly pussies calling yourselves artists. I dare you.

UPDATE (by SteveF because Bill is working and I’m slacking): Welcome, Instapundit readers! After reading this post, browse around a bit. On Daily Pundit we talk about much more than ant-covered Jesus and Ayesha’s breasts.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. It is a testament to the strength of true faith in Christ to see these images and not be bothered. Christ himself surely sees this and feels not anger or contempt for the “artists,” but sorrow and compassion.

It is a testament to the real state of Islam that a picture of an ant-covered Mohammed would offend and result in violence. I am sure the Prophet Mohammed himself would not be offended … because he’s dead.

Frankly, being offended over images of Mohammed is every bit the idolatry implicit in celebrating images of something. Both are sincere reactions to a graven image.

For Christians the ant-covered Christ is a trifle to be ignored. The same should be the case for Muslims when they see some silly cartoon of Mohammed.

  2. Good Lord. Is there anyone whose eyes don’t glaze over in boredom at the thought of yet another “art” exhibit full of gay hacks whining about how unfair life is for making them sick? Yes, AIDs is horrible, no, it’s not really any more horrible than any other incurable disease. Enough.

What’s really hilarious about the whole thing? “Hide/Seek Family and Friends Day”! Or as it should have been called, “Introduce Your Kids To Whiny Self-Absorbed Homosexuals Day.” And by hilarious I mean “stick a fork in us, we’re doomed.”

  3. AZ,

If Christ did not carry real unseen power, He would have been discarded as a farce long ago.

Agreed. There is little any of the vulgar humanists can do anymore that would offend. I somewhat understand their conclusions as they are invariably miserable people. It sickens me at the injustice, offends at the stupidity, and as so many others have noted magnifies the cowardice of the perpetratror. But I’ll tell you what it is real testament to – not my restraint but His.

For there will come a day that justice demands they recognize their incredible foolishness.

  4. SteveF said: “How about a picture of ol’ Mo grabbing his wife’s breasts? Oh, that’s right. He couldn’t. She didn’t have any. Because she was nine.”

But we could be in luck, because there’s a very good chance Mo would have participated in the Afghan Muslim Guys’ Thursday Nights Out, and then we could probably rustle up a pic of him grabbing a nine-year-old boy’s genitals.

  5. Bacon-wrapped Mo?

That gives me an idea. (First-time visitors should take their cue from the regulars and start shuddering…)

We need a MoBurger: A veal hamburger wrapped bacon covered in raisins and rapeseed and with a pickle in the backside. Deep-fry the whole thing in lard and serve during Ramadan.

  6. Is there anything citizen(s) can do to remove this exhibit from a formally well respected national museum?

Sure, but why bother? What is needed is some bored criticism. After all “The artistry is so last century. The attempt at shock so pathetic. The subject matter so mundane. It is time for artists to return to grammar school to perfect their skills.”

  7. Like the “activists” who bust up church services and shake down congregants on church steps, “daring” artists target only that which they know is safe. They know there will be no serious, physical repercussions from offended Christians.

“… cheap-ass poseur pieces of shit.” Truer words have never been spoken.

  8. How about a little street theater? Somebody should create a facsimile of the ant art work with Mohammed in place of Jesus and go tape it up on a wall in or near the gallery in the Museum with somebody else videotaping all the ensuing fun & games. Doesn’t James O’Keefe need a new project?

  11. When there is an offensive picture about Christ, Christians ask for gov funding for the artist to be cut off. When there is an offensive picture about Mohommed, we get worldwide riots and death threats. Somehow, leftie idiots like Bluepike find these 2 reactions to be morally equivelent and equally objectionable. It is a mark of how morally bankrupt the left has become.

  16. President Palin needs to force the NEA to support an exhibitiion by Norman Rockwell, followed by one by Thomas Kinkade (Painter of Light), followed by….

The idea, my Libertarian friends, is that after about four months of a steady diet of Peace, Love, and Sanity, the Liberals will be more than willing to give up the NEA if only to stop Conservatives from building a seventy foot tall sculpture of Normal Rockwell on the Mall.

Not only will you get the fun of watching their heads explode, but they will beg you to decrease the size of government.

  19. Christians view this state of things as just the fulfillment of prophecy, particularly the Book of Revelation. This is mild in comparison to what’s coming. Furthermore, we believe in a God who can fight his own battles and doesn’t need us to kill innocents in his name. Remember that he is called the Lord of Hosts, and we’re not talking about sacramental wafers.

Nevertheless, it is revealing that people who are always whining that the right is trying to establish a theocracy don’t have the nerve to say the same things about Islam that they constantly throw at Christianity and Judaism.

  21. Our current crop of lefties aren’t worth the moisture to spit on them, or the shoe leather to step on them. Once upon a time, there were Leftists who at least stood for some form of universal principle – flawed principle, yes, but some of them stood for something. Some of them even went to fight in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. They were still wrong, and they were mostly Stalin apologists, flip-flopping with the Pravda after the Molotov-von Ribbentrop pact, and back after Hitler invaded Russia anyway, but there was some spine to be found, some willingness left to put their own lives on the line for what they believed.

Whatever spark of 1789 might have still remained in the Left appears to have guttered out. The self-proclaimed crusaders for equality managed to fight US segregation at some personal risk in the last generation, but this generation hasn’t got the guts to face the last great bastions of real slavery, real sexism, real racism, and real bigotry left in the world. Their own Fanonista bibblebabble cripples their ability to even consider non-Westerners as moral agents, and so they will line up (yet again) on the wrong side of the next great battle for liberty. They consider themselves so bold for continuing to offend those who would never harm them, but they carefully construct their feeble “theories” of oppressive colonialism in order to figleaf their cowardice in the face of Islamic terrorism. Pathetic.
