The Meat of the Matter: Using Guns to Protect Your Property Against Black Looters

Armed citizens defend Sam’s Meat Market in Ferguson [corrected] | Twitchy

Somewhere, Amanda Marcotte is outraged. How dare gun owners protect their property from rioters?!

After all, those owners are privileged by the patriarchy!

They should be glad to let themselves be looted by those less privileged.

And then they should move the hell out of the neighborhood and let the local black thugs whine about food deserts and too many armed guards in the dollar stores.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. My delight at reading this is multidimensional. But as much as I beam about property owners protecting their stores (they should, of course, just let the violence wash over them, but they don’t seem to be quite that enlightened), I blushingly admit that the outrage this generates among the likes of the feckless lady cited above — whoever the hell she is — probably ranks highest on my grin-o-meter.

Not working out quite the way you thought it might, is it, o guardians of our freedom from gun violence?

IIRC from my days working in questionable neighborhoods, it depends on what kind of store you’re talking about. Chain operations, your Quick Trips, your 7-11s, your Wal-Marts…the owners of those properties do not live anywhere near their stores. When trouble comes, it’s not so much in their faces. And they all have strictly enforced rules forbidding workers from having firearms on the premises.

It is the independent operators…Ed’s Discountarama, LaShaun’s Nails, LeRoy’s BBQ…they live right there, and that’s pretty much all they have. I’ve been behind a lot of those counters and there is often a short-barreled shotgun or a throwaway handgun really, really close to the cash register.

    Just in case.

    • Yep. Burn down a McDonalds or a Walmart, and nobody gets hurt except those who hit the unemployment lines, the the rest of us who see the operation’s prices rise a penny or two per unit to cover the insurance.

Of course with LaShanda’s Fancy Nail Emporium, it’s not like she’s made any big political contributions lately, so…c’est la vie. (Which is Frog for “shit happens…to you…”)
