New York City: We’re (Gonna Be) Number One!

New York City’s Crime Disease by Heather Mac Donald, City Journal 14 August 2014

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio is turning to Chicago for lessons in how to combat Gotham’s rising gun violence—Chicago, where black teens kill each other at four times the rate as they do in New York. De Blasio and the city council will spend nearly $13 million on an initiative that treats gun violence primarily as a public-health problem, rather than a law-enforcement one, a concept championed by epidemiologist Gary Slutkin and implemented most famously in the Windy City.

No way is the Apple going to let Chicago stay ahead of it in the murder sweepstakes.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. Rumor has it that Dee-troit is feeling kinda left-out, and would rilly, rilly like to join in the game, but – alas, they’ve got a few “disqualifying” problems…

    1) A lack of targets population…

    2) A really serious lack of gang-bangerz with gunz & knivez shooters/stabbers/slashers (they’re workin’ on that one, though…)

    3) Low “economic motivation” (i.e., lotta peepul broke – damn broke – can’t-even-pay-attention broke…so – nuthin’ to steal or otherwise kill for or over)
