About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

I’ll Believe They’re Serious About Health When They Ban Tobacco — 2 Comments

  1. Worse than alcohol?

They’d better ban alcohol right now, considering its deleterious individual and social effects. Although banning alcohol seems to take a Constitutional amendment, whereas banning everything else takes just a law, or even an executive order. Funny, that…

  2. I wanted to read comments to either the Weekly Standard article or the one from Hudson Institute that was referenced. Unsurprisingly, I didn’t see comments on either one. Drug warriors don’t like being challenged on their illogical nonsense. They don’t like justifying ridiculous fallout from the drug war, such as asset forfeiture and ruination of lives. (Which is worse – to have a bit of THC in your brains, or be locked up for ten years in the prime of your life?).

They also don’t like being compared to leftists, even thought that “we have to tell people what they can and can’t do for their own good” argument is standard leftist playbook material.

I did notice that the author of the Hudson Institute piece is just as much of a stuffy-looking old fart as you might expect.

(I’ve been accused of being in the old fart category myself on occasion, but I’ve never been that stuffy looking, even at funerals.)
