Boston ‘Teeming With Protesters’ in Giant Rally Against Housing Illegal Immigrants in the State | Video | TheBlaze.com

While Bree Sison of WBZ-TV estimated the crowd numbering in the hundreds, Boston.com described the area in front of the State House as “teeming with protesters,” noting that rally organizer Jeff Kuhner, host of WRKO’s The Kuhner Report, put the number closer to 10,000.

Glenn Reynolds slugs his blog of this story “Even in Blue State Massachusetts.”  I’d say it would be more accurate to say “Especially in Blue State Massachusetts.”

Blue states tend to be characterized by dominating urban areas jammed full of permanent Democrat voters who are, by and large, poorer, less educated, less employed (or employable) and generally less able to compete for good jobs.

Hordes of uneducated, barely literate, non-English speaking illegal immigrants suddenly being dumped into their local job markets are a much bigger threat to them than the immigrants would be in a red state, because those states tend to have fewer dominating urban areas, and tend to feature jobs in agriculture that are not already being competed for by the local legal citizenry of any class.

And there is another tricky aspect to this:  Most urban governments, as well as state and federal bureaucracies, function as employers of last resort for the underclasses.  No major amounts of education are needed, no difficult technical skills, and as a group, they are heavily protected by go-along, get-along public employee unions.

Suddenly legalized immigrants would be a direct threat to this cozy arrangement.  In an age when government really has little or no room to grow, employment-wise, the unions won’t simply be able to absorb a massive influx of workers competing for the same jobs their members already hold.

And since these jobs are a primary bulwark of the so-called ethnic middle classes, illegals pose a threat to the livelihoods and well being of both the under and middle classes of these staunch Democrat supporters.

It would be interesting if the interests of the Democrats and their take no prisoners approach to flooding America with illegals finally cracks the chains around the necks of their long-time serfs down on their ethnic plantations, wouldn’t it?

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.
