JOHN FUND: Moment Of Truth On Corporate Welfare: By choosing to end the Export-Import Bank, the GOP can zero out a destructive government program. “It seems like decades since Republicans have been able to permanently zero out a government program of any size.

Decades? I I’m nearly seven decades old, and I can’t remember the GOP ever zeroing out any government program.

The truth is, the GOP is just as statist-minded as is the Democrat Party, and has been ever since reconstituting itself during the Great Depression.

My prediction: The GOP will not zero out the Import-Export bank. They’ll utter lots of pleasing, deceptive soundbites to make themselves look good, but in the end, they will not do it.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.
