Roger L. Simon » Wimbledon Report: Who’s the GOAT?

Fans love to debate who’s the GOAT — greatest of all time — in their favorite sports.  Mine are basketball and tennis and I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time surfing the ‘net reading posts evaluating the relative merits of Kobe, LeBron and Michael.  I’m an L.A. guy and am naturally biased for Kobe, but I realize LeBron and Michael may have greater claims.  Only Phil Jackson (aka Phil Jax) knows for sure. We’ll see next year.  Nevertheless, basketball is a team game and the answer to the question of the GOAT will always be elusive.

Get back to me when any of the above manages to:

1.  Win the season scoring title, not once, but many times.

2.  Set the all-time single game scoring record.

3.  Win the season rebounding title, not once, but many times.  (Which still stands).

4.  Win the season assist title. (III)

In other words, get back to me when you at least put Wilt Chamberlain on your list for consideration.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. I only got to see Wilt at the end of his career, but he was truly one of a kind. He’s one of the few from the earlier NBA eras that would have dominated in the present day.

Roger’s list displays something I see more and more frequently: the error of recency. If it didn’t happen yesterday (or earlier today), it never happened.
