Obesity Linked to Long-Term Unemployment in U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans who have been out of work for a year or more are much more likely to be obese than those unemployed for a shorter time. The obesity rate rises from 22.8% among those unemployed for two weeks or less to 32.7% among those unemployed for 52 weeks or more.

I’d be interested to see what percentage of the long term unemployed and obese are black.  I’d hazard a wager that the figure is higher than the percentage of blacks in the general population.

Gallup probably knows, but they’re not about to publish the ethnic demographics of their polling on this.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.
