The Treasury Department has intercepted $1.9 billion in tax refunds already this year — $75 million of that on debts delinquent for more than 10 years, said Jeffrey Schramek, assistant commissioner of the department’s debt management service. The aggressive effort to collect old debts started three years ago — the result of a single sentence tucked into the farm bill lifting the 10-year statute of limitations on old debts to Uncle Sam.
Well, you know, this poor Black woman probably voted for the party that did this to her. The farm bill in question was passed by a Democrat House and Senate (with, admittedly, some GOP help), but was vetoed by President Bush. His veto was then overturned in both House and Senate, again with significant GOP assistance – not many Republicans voted for it, but enough did to reach the necessary level to overcome the veto.
It was, however, a Democrat show from start to finish.
I hope she’s enjoying what her party did to her, good and hard.
