Instapundit » Blog Archive » YESTERDAY WOULD HAVE BEEN NORMAN BORLAUG’S 100TH BIRTHDAY. This piece by Gregg Easterbrook is worth…

Plus, note this from Borlaug: “(Most Western environmentalists) have never experienced the physical sensation of hunger. They do their lobbying from comfortable office suites in Washington or Brussels. If they lived just one month amid the misery of the developing world, as I have for 50 years, they’d be crying out for tractors and fertilizer and irrigation canals and be outraged that fashionable elitists in wealthy nations were trying to deny them these things.”

Or not:  Washington desk jockeys and Brussels Europenii, Marxists to the core, if forced to spend a month among those they claim to “help,” would more likely call for their extermination – for their own good, of course.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. The left does have an amazing ability to countenance death. From Stalin’s millions to the millions who died of malaria because of Rachel Carson’s enviro-left propaganda, they simple refuse to see the deaths cause by their own ideological brethren.

When the meltdown of the blue social model leads to six figure or seven figure deaths, they won’t see their ideological brethren as the cause of that, either. Their “blame the right” reflexes are so honed, they’ll be doing it instantly.
