ABC Frets Over Pro-American Cadillac Ad: ‘Arrogant’ and ‘Xenophobic?’ | NewsBusters

The journalists at Good Morning America on Thursday were sufficiently provoked by a pro-American Cadillac commercial that they devoted a whole segment to wondering if the spot was “arrogant” and “xenophobic.” GMA’s reporters, who couldn’t find any time to cover former IRS head Lois Lerner pleading the Fifth on Capitol Hill, devoted almost three minutes to the “backlash” against the car commercial.

The ad features a man strolling around his large house, praising the free enterprise system and the work ethic of Americans: “Other countries, they work. They stroll home. They stop by the café. They take August off. Off!” Co-host George Stephanopoulos worried, “Is it selling a confident take on America with a sense of humor or showing off an arrogant caricature that is just plain obnoxious?”

I love the ad.  Here.  See what you think of it:

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. It’s a GREAT ad, it’s not supposed to be appreciated by Germans or the French or Euroweenies. They don’t buy Cadillacs or American cars anyhow, they buy Peugeots and Citroens and MBZs and BMW’s and Vulvos and SAAAbitches – BMW is just German for Chevy-Z1. Screw ‘em.

  2. The Chinese are thinking “The Americans take Saturday off. OFF!”

“…and all of Sunday, too! Holy Chairman Mao!!”

I really, REALLY like that ad, even if it was put together for the our-shit-smells-like-honeysuckle snobbiest branch of Gubment Motors – that particular Caddy, though…eh, not so much. Lotsa flash, not much dash.
