How many times did foolishly confident American experts and officials come out with some variant of the phrase “We all share a common interest in a stable and prosperous Ukraine.” We may think that’s true, but Putin doesn’t.
We may think that’s true, but Iran doesn’t.
We may think that’s true, but most Muslims don’t.
We may think that’s true, but China doesn’t.
Our Ruling Class lives in a dangerous, potentially deadly bubble where the biggest threat they (and we) face is the Tea Party. I just had a minor FB dustup with some woman who asserted, “Questioning the integrity of a tea-party site (a tea-party site!)” in the full confidence that she was advancing some sort of argument with the offer of such incontrovertibe “proof.” The exclamation point was supposed to be the clincher, I suppose.
This is a bubble of their own creation, and, as many of us have been saying, it cannot survive the return of the Gods of the Copybook Headings.
With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings.
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Heading said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”
