NSA Not Reassuring At All

NSA is collecting less than 30 percent of U.S. call data, officials say – The Washington Post

The National Security Agency is collecting less than 30 percent of all Americans’ call records because of an inability to keep pace with the explosion in cellphone use, according to current and former U.S. officials.

First, my default position is to assume they are lying.  We know they lie constantly, whenever they are forced to reveal anything at all about what they do.  If you assume they are lying, you’ll be right far more often than you are wrong.

Second – what is so reassuring about only 30 percent?

Admitted, I’ve become resigned to that number rising to 100 percent, but that doesn’t mean I’m very happy or very reassured about it.  Total information gathered via ubiquitous surveillance will be the primary tool of tyranny, now and into the future.

That is definitely not a cheerful thought.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.
