Maine’s highest court: Transgender student’s rights were violated | The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram

The rights of a transgender girl from Orono were violated when school administrators made her use a staff bathroom at her elementary school instead of the girls’ restroom, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled Thursday.

Transgender student Nicole Maines, now 16, and her family on the day of a historic Maine supreme court ruling.

The ruling is the first in which a state supreme court has affirmed a transgender person’s right to equal access to restrooms in places of public accommodation.

Uh huh. Get back to me when some guy in a dress rapes some woman in the lady’s john.  Or some guy rapes some woman in jeans in the men’s.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. We had a “guy” at my last job who, I guess, was planning on undergoing a sex change. He wore women’s clothes to work, but had neither started hormone therapy nor had he had Mister Winkie lopped off. He insisted that he be allowed to use the women’s bathroom. All of the women I knew where rightly horrified to have a guy in their bathroom, but were apparently afraid to say so to management.

  2. What defines a “transgender” at elementary school age anyway? How does a child get the idea they are a transgender. What is a transgender really? (I know the textbook definition) I’m just at a loss in this world.

We called girls that acted like boys – Tomboys.
We called boys that acted like girls – Sissies.
The first was good, the second bad.
Were they actually transgender? Some closer than others?

  3. Maybe. Some of the tomboys did grow up to become lesbians, and some of the sissy-boys likewise grew up to become gay men. But most didn’t.

Gender isn’t something you put on like a dress or a pair of pants, no matter how much the diversity crowd would like it to be. Just as sexual orientation is not a matter of choice, no matter how much the socon crowd would like it to be.

  4. I agree most didn’t grow up to be gay. I’m just trying to figure out how an elementary school kid decides they are transgender and need to use the bathroom that is the opposite of their actual sexual parts.

  5. Allow me to once again point out that if we didn’t have government schools, a lot of these problems would go away. Sure, private schools have their own issues, but they’re better at listening to parents’ and students’ concerns and generally are more willing to work out acceptable compromises.
