I don’t know what I’m doing here | Questions and Observations

Blogging about politics just seems like a burden.

It’s all so pointless. We will never convince the majority of people to embrace liberty, instead of looking to government to be Mommy. At least not until government fails so badly that its incompetence is made clearly manifest. And even if that happens, I suspect that the majority of the electorate will look for a man on a white horse, rather than freedom, and the responsibility for their own lives. There’ll always be a cohort that thinks government could do everything for everyone if only the right people were running it. And, it seems, quite a lot of people will listen to them.

Arguing with progressives is pointless, too. It’s like arguing with people in a movie theater who won’t stop texting. It’s a waste of time to say anything to them, because if they had a shred of civility or decency, they wouldn’t be doing it in the first place. If you’re a Progressive, I just assume at this point that you’re too abysmally stupid to waste time with on reason or debate.

Dale Franks takes a look at his blogging, his work, and his life, and feels nothing but a profound sense of depression and hopelessness.

I seem to go through this cycle about once every ten years.  The only way to get out of it is to get out of it.

That’s an easy thing to say, but a much harder thing to do.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. I suspect that the majority of the electorate will look for a man on a white horse, rather than freedom, and the responsibility for their own lives.

That’s the only reason I’m not an anarchist. Philosophically and by preference I am, but I’m hugely outnumbered. History suggests that the mewling majority will accept any tyrant rather than accept the responsibility for their own lives.

  2. Sounds like he needs to go shooting more often, and call in sick more frequently too. Meanwhile he compares the dyno-graphs of two posturing giant pig “off-road” bikes, neither of which can remotely venture into single-track Nirvana. Swell. Off-road is where Traction and asphalt-crawlers go to die – there is no there there – dynographs just reveal how much useless trench-digging energy sucking horsepower they have. He should be comparing their Jenny Craig chart – weight is everything off-road… Sheesh, I guess the pure hatred generated by riding in stupid-stupid LA traffic has killed more brain cells.
