Bo Diddley, Who Gave Rock His Beat, Dies at 79 – Obituary (Obit) – NYTimes.com

Bo Diddley, a singer and guitarist who invented his own name, his own guitars, his own beat and, with a handful of other musical pioneers, rock ’n’ roll itself, died Monday at his home in Archer, Fla. He was 79.

I missed this yesterday, but it needs to be noted.  Another of the Foundations of Rock passes.

UPDATE:  He passed three years ago.  Apologies, all.  I picked up the link as a “new” link from somewhere else, and didn’t check the date on the NYT piece.  My bad.  Although I do have to say I really didn’t know he had died, and now I do, so there is that.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.
