‘Duck Dynasty’ star suspended for anti-gay comments | Inside TV | EW.com

A&E broke its silence on Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments late Wednesday.

The cable network announced Robertson is off the hit show for the time being.

The network issued the following statement to EW: “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”

Ah….horseshit.  I disagree with Duckhead’s blabbering here from top to bottom, but it’s a free country (well, it used to be).

Yah, yah, I know, he works for A&E, and they can do anything they want with him as an employee, including firing him.

OTOH, they are firing him for expressing a personal opinion.  They’ve already posted this huge disclaimer, but apparently that’s not enough.  But hey, A&E, show some balls.  I expect his viewpoint is shared by pretty much all of his family and friends who appear on the show, so why not just cancel the show??

It would cost you too much money to do that?

Oh.  Well.  Okay, then.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

    • Well, maybe.

I disagree with Duckhead’s opinions. And A&E has every right to fire him. But they shouldn’t. This is just a sop to progtards who don’t believe in freedom of expression when it crosses one of their sacred sheeple.

But A&E is not acting on principle though it’s trying to pretend that it is. If it were, it would can the whole show. It won’t, though, because the show makes them too much money.

A&E’s only principle in this matter is profit.
