Couple of thoughts: After JFK’s assassination, Hickory Hill became the home of the Kennedy Government in Exile, as RFK and LBJ (who loathed each other) dueled in an extended knife fight for political leverage.
When I worked on the RFK campaign as a minor staffer, we called it “the Mother Ship.” Reading this article put paid to yet another ancient series of memories for me. All the pillars of the world of my youth are fading away now
The story about the man who bought Hickory Hill, and who regards the Kennedy legacy attached to the property as a drawback, is equally interesting. If nothing else, it shows that while government itself may not actually make anything, the people why supplly stuff to the government certainly do.
