According to most sources, Boehner can count on the majority of his caucus to support the move, but will get pilloried by the conservative wing of the caucus. That may mean that Boehner won’t be Speaker if Republicans retain the House after the 2014 elections, but at this point Boehner may not want the job at all.
I don’t know what “sources” are predicting that Boehner will lose his speakership, but if that turned out to be the case, then I’d count this cave as a big win.
I’ve got confidence in people like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, though, and in their intelligence, which is rather higher than that of their opponents. I expect, no matter what happens, to see them growing stronger and stronger going forward to the 2014 and then 2016 elections.
One major order of business, of course, is primarying Mitch McConnell into oblivion next year in Kentucky.
