Google’s Calico project means that hearts and minds have been convinced that we can defeat aging
This, coupled with Google’s recent friendly takeover of Ray Kurzweil, the father of the Singularity (Ray Kurzweil, Google meld minds – SFGate), indicates that Google not only buys into the Singularity concept, but that the company is going to put some of its billions into an effort to make it happen – and, likely, attempt to reap the benefits from driving the most momentous change for humanity in its history.
There is even a clue as to who is behind all this. It’s Larry Page:
No tenure models here: the school brings in 160 different guest lecturers each year with 40% of that list changing year-to-year. Vint Cerf, Larry Page, Dean Kamen, and Craig Venter have all lectured at Singularity.
Singularity University is another of Ray Kurzweil’s creations – and the fact that Page has lectured there indicates to me he is fully conversant with the various concepts attached to the overall structure of the Singularity.
And it now appears that Google will be pushing it forward on all fronts, from AI machines to life extension. Good news for those of us whose primary motto when it comes to the Singularity is: Faster, please!
