Chicago Police Superintendent Says Cops Will Shoot Gun Carrying Citizens Because of His Training

Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy is not happy about the new concealed carry laws in Illinois.  And now he is predicting that police will shoot citizens who are lawfully carrying firearms.

And if they do, they should be tried and convicted of murder, and sentenced to life in prison or, preferably, death.

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. That(a trial) won’t happen because as we all know popo’s(especially the thuggish ones) have the right to go home after their shift. Of course should some relative of one of his victims off this stupid sack of cop; well, that’s another story…

  2. Funny thing about CCW – my son mentioned it a couple of weeks ago, as we were going home from taking the (pre-requisite*) CCW training course.

“I hadn’t really realized, until now,” he said, “how this makes it so much more likely that, along with practicing awhile with shooting and all, this makes it so much more likely you can defend yourself if you need to.

If they actually go along with attempting what Asshat McCarthy is saying, sooner or later – likely sooner – both Asshat and some of his cops are going to be even more “unhappy” than he is now, when they find out that some of those who start legally carrying will shoot back.

It also seems entirely likely that some of them will turn out to be better at hitting what they aim at than some of Chi-town’s “Finest”.

Despite what Asshat has to say about their “6 months of police academy, 6 months of field training, and ongoing, regular basis training”, the average street cop, even in The Big Windy, gets relatively very little training or practice with his service arm at any time. Most cops are below-average shooters – it’s simply not their “thing”; they have way more things to be concerned with on a regular basis.

I’m much better, myself, with a rifle than I am with a handgun – but I’ve shot at a range with street cops before, and I can easily out-shoot most of them, because I practice more than most of them do, by far.

    No brag – just fact.

(*As is the case in just about all States, you’ve got to take – and pass, and receive a completion certificate from – the training course in order to make application for the actual CCW, which is then (eventually) issued by the State. In NC, the course costs $100, plus range-approved ammo [40-50 rounds] and gun rental [if you don't already own one], takes a full 9 hours of class and range time. Application is another $80 fee, plus $10 for fingerprints, and about 1/2 to 1 hour at the courthouse, after filling out the forms, getting signature notarized/witnessed on 4 of the forms, and making a copy to keep.)
