The I-80 sinkhole was discovered about a half mile west of Donner Pass Road in Truckee. The sinkhole was discovered in the median of Interstate 80 around 12:45 a.m. closing down both eastbound and westbound lanes.
On Friday, the westbound lane of Interstate 80 opened again around 10:40 a.m. and the eastbound lane opened again around 2:45 p.m.
According to Caltrans spokeswoman Rochelle Jenkins, the I-80 sinkhole has been filled with slurry, a cement mixture.
Hope they have that thing fixed. I’ll be driving right by it on my way to the Gun Bloggers Rendevous in Reno soon.
So far there are no further reports of any additional sinkholes, stress, or cracking on I-80 which is a major freeway between Northern California and Nevada.
A stream that runs underneath the road is considered to have been the most likely cause of the I-80 sinkhole.
