If I were a Republican in Congress, I’d introduce a bill — tomorrow! — banning, and, in fact, criminalizing, such seizures in the United States. That would be popular, and if the Democrats were dumb enough to oppose it, it would make people wonder what they were up to.

Neither Boehner nor McConnell would ever permit such a bill to reach the floor.

It might be too embarrassing to their Democrat friends. And we certainly wouldn’t want anything to interrupt the ongoing GOP cave to the Democrats.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. This is why I went hoarse trying to get people to call their Congressman between the last regrettable election and early January and demand a conservative Speaker of the House. For this effort I received 100 variations on "Boehner isn't the CAUSE of all of our problems."

When you leave a "General" in charge of your army that will do anything to avoid a fight you have made the decision to lose all future battles. But Republican voters, like their RINO vote-getters always want to wait/surrender now so they can act/fight later. Nevermind they never get around to the future fight.

Boehner and his office-wife on the Rules Cmte rig the process so all reform is blocked in the back rooms. No matter how many times the Republican voters see this, no matter how angry they say they are, their response is a llifeless "meh." They would rather make arguments that make the arguer feel justified in their postion that ever accomplish a change. The mere fact that a Republican voters feels they have a reason to have a certain position is where politics ends for them.
