The Phony Reasons Behind the Rush to Control America and Americans

NY soda ban: You can always find someone to defend the indefensible | Questions and Observations

So we shouldn’t ask lawmakers to prove that a) obesity is an imminent threat and b) banning large sodas will defeat that threat?  Because that’s certainly the premise.

Well, yes, but that is the progressive standard on everthing – identify a “threat,” and then propose whatever you’d like in the name of doing something about the “problem,” whether your proposal will actually mitigate the problem or not.

Finally, ignore the question of whether your proposal violates constitutionally-guaranteed liberties in America.

Rather like banning some “ugly guns.” Or some unfashionable drugs in certain circumstances (but not in others – see the compulsory speed-freaking of American boys).

The ultimate name of this game is control, not problem solving.  Don’t forget it.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.
