Assault rifle stolen from unmarked SF police vehicle recovered | www.ktvu.com

SAN FRANCISCO —

An assault rifle stolen from an unmarked San Francisco police car late Saturday night has been recovered, police said Monday night.

Police have released few details about how or where the rifle was recovered, but said that its recovery was announced quickly because of the threat to public safety created by its theft.

The AR-15 rifle was stolen when the car was parked and locked while officers worked in the South of Market neighborhood Saturday night. Unknown suspects broke in to the car and stole the rifle, Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

The AR-15 is a type of rifle issued to specially trained officers so that they are available for rapid deployment during incidents such as a barricaded suspect, Andraychak said.

This has been all over the news for two days, and is now being covered as a disaster having been averted because this tool of mass slaughter has been recovered before several hundred innocents could be slaughtered with it.

It is an AR-15 set up as a semi-automatic rifle. It fires a 5.52/.223 shell, basically a jumped-up .22 caliber bullet that Kim du Toit has famously called a “poodle-shooter” round. This round was originally selected by the U.S. military as its standard battlefield ammunition due to its propensity to cause wounds rather than deaths,  because of its low power. (Wounded soldiers tie up more of the enemy’s resources than dead ones do).

I have the same capability in one of the rifles I own. It also fires 5.56/.223 rounds, one each time I pull the trigger. There is nothing especially dangerous about this rifle, and nothing about it differs from my own in such a way as to make “special training” necessary for police officers – or ten year old target shooters – to use.

God, how I hate these hoplophobic hysterics!

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. Meanwhile, 5 million or so AR-15s and similar models sat around their owner’s homes and caused….. Absolutely nothing.

My goodness there little feller, did you wet your pants….. again?

  2. I can just imagine the San Francisco press circus since, when it comes to left wing hysteria, you’re at ground zero. It didn’t get much reported here in San Diego, where thousands of sailors and marines would have laughed at the reporters. Chances are the hysterical reporting didn’t get far from the bay area, where 45 years ago, there would have been thousands of sailors and marines laughing at the reporters there too. The lefty intellectual inbreeding in San Francisco is truly astounding. You ought to write a book about it Bill – you’ve got a ringside seat.

  3. …its recovery was announced quickly because of the threat to public safety created by its theft.

    Great Hevvins ta Murgatroyd, yes!!

Can’t take any chances on what that there awful, murderous, Mother-stabbin’, Father-rapin’, instrument of massive dee-struction would undoubtely get up to all on its lonesome, whilst racin’ about on the loose!!!

Why, just imagine what could have occurred if it’d actually been “loaded” when it was (apparently, mercifully, for only a brief time!!) released and at large!!

(You really have to wonder – don’t you suppose that the people who write shit like that actually have to snigger, just a bit, at the over-the-top suppressed-panic tone they’re trying to convey?

Anti-firearm lunacy, truly, has no boundaries within reality…)

I don’t wonder at all. Lefties in general, and the press in particular, are some of least educated people around. When writing about guns, they have no idea what they’re writing about. Even if they did, they wouldn’t snigger, they actually believe their own propaganda.

  5. “Lefties in general, and the press in particular, are some of most intentionally ignorant people around.”

    There, fixed that for ya’

Found this yesterday, seems to fit here.

“The most fundamental fact about the ideas of the political left is that they do not work. Therefore we should not be surprised to find the left concentrated in institutions where ideas do not have to work in order to survive.” — Thomas Sowell

  6. I am amazed that the mayor did not declare a state of emergency and place the entire city under lockdown. Why are schools any different from cities? If there’s a maniac out there crazy enough to break into a car and steal a gun, then he’s crazy enough to use it. Pretty irresponsible not to warn the populace and impose precautions for everyone’s safety. That goes for pictures of guns, too.
