The PJ Tatler » Today’s Hysterical Gun Freakout: Teacher Invades Kid’s Privacy, Threatens Him Over Digital Photo of Airsoft Gun

The school reportedly never even notified the parents that a teacher had snatched the student’s property, rifled through his photos and threatened him with police action. The teacher involved has a history of anti-firearm (but not anti-airsoft gun) activism, but evidently doesn’t know a real gun from a toy. The school backed the teacher. Common sense is dying in this country. I understand having a snap reaction to seeing what looks like a photo of a gun. Some BB guns are built to look like the real thing, but even an informed glance at a photo of one should be enough for a knowledgeable person to figure out that they’re not looking at a real firearm. What we don’t seem to have are enough people who know the first thing about firearms, in positions of power over our kids.

Sorry, but once again, this battle is being fought on the wrong ground.

Get it straight, you morons: It doesn’t matter whether the picture was of an airsoft gun or a real firearm! Neither picture is dangerous to anybody, the pictures were none of the teacher’s business, the confiscation of the camera was theft, pure and simple, and not a bit of it had anythng to do with anything other than the teacher’s insane and obsessive hoplophobia.

This, by the way, is the perfect response to Lorenzo’s contention that the problem is administration, not individual teachers. When the teachers are maniacs, they’ll end up with an administration that supports and enables their manias.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. I don’t know about you, Bill. You seem determined to misconstrue my comments. I never said the pinko commie pervert (PCP) teachers aren’t responsible, I wrote that principals and administrators can put a stop to the outrageous actions of lefty teachers but are instead backing them up, as was pointed out in the story. It’s not one or the other, it’s both. I like to spread the blame around when it’s warranted, and in every hysterical teacher incident, it’s warranted.

In other words, Bill, stop lying about my record!

Yeah? I write, and understand, English. What language were you attempting when you wrote the following?

Actually, I thought Drach missed the point by inferring, through draconian punishment, that the teacher was solely responsible. When you and I were in second grade, if a teacher reported a kid for that, the principal would have asked “Are you nuts?”, and the result would have been a note in the teacher’s file, not a suspension. That’s why I believe the principal is more responsible than the teacher.

I don’t have to lie about your record. All I have to do is print it to make my point.

UPDATE: In case this is difficult for anybody, let me elaborate: These things start with teachers. Administrators are, as a class, pointy-haired idiots who can absolutely be counted on to do the most stupid thing available to them. Think of them as guns with triggers.

But it takes a teacher to pull that trigger. If you aren’t a raging fucktard, and you know that the vice principal is going to do something incredibly stupid if you report something, then you don’t report it, you handle it yourself.

This asshole teacher had a hoplophobic axe to grind. He wanted to do terrible things to that kid, and so he pulled the trigger. Terrible things then ensued.

If the teachers don’t pull the triggers, then the guns don’t fire. It’s the teachers.

  3. “It’s the teachers.”

Who are hired, evaluated, and supported in their liberal-fascist dementia by the administrators. It’s the teachers and the administrators, because what it really is is a loop, and it is most assuredly fully closed at this point. Heavily armored all the way around, too, by the various unions, FederalGovCo, and the full baying support of the loathsome liberal media complex.

    • Mike, if an administrator didn’t know about an incident unless a teacher reported it, and the teacher didn’t report it, would anything further happen along the lines of disciplinary action?

I don’t know how to make this any plainer: Yes, the admins are PC GP dicks, but this stuff wouldn’t be happening if the teachers weren’t making it happen.

    • Yes, yes, and all the other ancillary cultural, political, and social reasons that go into the collapse of our edu systems. But noting all this only diverts attention and blame from the initial instigators of almost all these terrible, mindless disciplinary outbursts – the individual teachers themselves.
