How many folks find the link roundups  – News Hooks and Around the Blogosphere – useful?

I know Lorenzo likes them, and SteveF and Arcs don't.

Show of hands,please.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. I’m not that fond of them, Bill. I check in here at least once every day, sometimes more, but what I’m after is your, and the others who post here, thoughts and comments on the topics you guys normally cover…even the off-the-wall stuff. I can get the link roundup over at Instapundit, and he covers a fair amount of what your roundups cover.

  2. There are too many links and I simply don’t have time to follow most of them. I think you add value when you pick what registers as interesting to you and comment. Even if the comment is terse. If you limited the roundup to just 5 – 6 you think are must reads that might work.

    • I’m with kennycan on this. For instance, one day of your link-fest, the only one I clicked was how DHS was buying targets of pregnant women, children, and elders. I come for your mostly terse commentary and the intelligent comments.

  3. It’s not that I never look at any of the links, but as others have said, most of them are probably up over at Glenn’s place and a couple others too and I’m in those most days so it gets a little redundant.

I’m more partial to the writing and commenting from the members here, if I’ve got a choice. There’s some pretty darn good writers here. Not that I see myself in that group at all.

  4. I like them as a signal of what you find interesting, but I don’t click through and read that many. Like others have said, I’ve already seen many of them, and I’m more interested in what you and the other commenters here have to say.

  5. As noted above, I come around to see what Bill and the regulars have to say, so having a long list of links doesn’t seem particularly useful.  Scatter them in smaller chunks where they could be commeneted upon, and they would be more relevant to me.

  6. Did this reply over on another place – thought I should chime in here with it as well –

Since you rerigged over the last couple of days, the site loads/updates for me like greasy lightning – however, for some reason, when I access via the Internet Explorer from my work-site (only on lunch-time or other breaks, honest, folks!), the Comments load pretty-slowly to verr-r-r-y slowly – plus, I am not able to log in to the site from there, so cannot Comment for myself. The access is super-fast broadband, but has some heavy-duty filters (yet, they lurves them some I-net Exploder – go figger!), so that might have something to do with it(?)

At "home" (my hole-in-the-wall whilst working on contract in Chicagoland), access is excellent, and Comments come right up, plus log-in is no problem. Here, though, I'm on through FireFox, via a Verizon sorta-broadband (sometimes) linky thing – and my filtering stuff here ain't a teeny patch on what the workplace has (it's a sorta-Gubmint place – DOE-owned, but run by some university foundations).

I kinda like the Around The Blogosphere In 80 Seconds thingy – 'specially now that you started inserting snarky commentary after each entry/link (that is you, right?) OTOH, the Morning News-Hooks series doesn't have a lot of appeal – too many items, maybe, or just that it's kinda overkill having two link strings in a day. In the end, though, you're Da Kingpin – you gotta do what you gotta do; you won't chase me away – even though your comment-posts are still the best part of DP.

Also BTW – thanks for the timely link; how’d you know I’ve been wanting a new pair of binoculars? I expect to enjoy my new Simmons “far-lookers”…
