Touré: If Adam Lanza Shot Up A Black School, There Would Be No ‘National Conversation About Guns’

On Friday, MSNBC host Touré took on what he said was a distinctly racial opinion piece in The Daily Caller by National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre. In that post, the gun rights advocate defended gun ownership by saying that guns are American’s only defense in a lawless, post-disaster environment. Touré said that the racial overtones in LaPierre’s post were evident and added that, had Newtown shooter Adam Lanza committed his atrocity in a predominately black school, there would be no “national conversation” about gun violence.

Actually, if Trayvon Martin had shot up a predominantly white or black school, there would have been no national conversation about guns – especially not one involving somebody who “looks like Obama’s son.”

Just as we never have a national conversation about violently murderous Muslim jihadis when they shoot up a military base.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. Actually, of course, Toure is near-totally full of shit, and is being an obviously “dog-whistling” reverse-racist in his ugly little screed.

When you read the very clear language of LaPierre’s remarks Toure referenced, the only thing that even remotely resembles any sort of “racial overtones” is the references to Latin American drug gangs in U.S. cities and to the continued lack of action – in defiance of the law – by Obama in sealing (or at least effectively reducing) the continued porosity of the U.S.-Mexico border.

    Further bullshit by Toure:

…He linked the high rate of gun violence among blacks to the broad support for gun control in the black community, as well as the fact that 83 percent of African-Americans tell pollsters that they do not own a gun…

    1) Is there, really, “broad support for gun control in the black community” ? 2) Even if there is (and I question that, myself), howinhell does that “link” to a “…high rate of gun violence among blacks…” ? 3) If I’m black, and have been paying attention (especially in recent years, and most particularly if I live in an inner city), do I really want to be telling “poll-takers” (aka: Gubmint workers or their cash-and-carry helpers) the truth about owning a gun?

  2. as well as the fact that 83 percent of African-Americans tell pollsters that they do not own a gun

Where does the Raaaaacist Anti-American TourĂ© get this? Anti-gun Harris polls? From the looks of the Gallup polls over the years, many people are lying when asked about guns. BTW, according to Gallup 27% of “black” households admitted to having guns in 2010. When you consider that thanks to the War on some Drugs and the Violent Women’s Protection Act, at least 50% of “black” men are denied their Second Amendment right, lying becomes necessary.
