» If David Gregory were not David Gregory – Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion

The guns laws, as presently constituted and as proposed, turn us into a nation of men not of laws.

What Greta doesn’t understand is that David Gregory isn’t being investigated because he’s David Gregory; if he were anyone else, he’d already be in jail.

Actually, we have become a nation that uses the law to tyrannize men.

I realize that most lawyers probably don’t recognize or understand this, but lawyers themselves are part of the problem, not the solution.

The solution?

Well, we could try Shakespeare’s suggestion regarding the lawyers themselves. For starters.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. The ‘Shakespearean Solution’ (Kill All the Lawyers) is far too merciful — they deserve to be tortured with extreme prejudice. A few suggestions:
    1) As Glenn Reynolds has been fond of pointing out, while law school costs are going up, job prospects are abysmal. Show no mercy — let them slowly starve, struggle to pay off loans, work in menial jobs, and be often, loudly, and publicly ridiculed for their stupidity.
    2) Pursuant to the anti-discrimination laws they have foisted on us, apply them equally, e.g., since only ~0.36% of the population are lawyers, then there should only be ~2 lawyers in the House of Representatives and none in the Senate (with an exception for those who came to their senses and actually made a living doing something else useful/productive). Multiply instances as desired to maximize torture.
    3) Change the cost/benefit ratio of civil law suits. Lawyers engage in, and encourage clients to file, frivolous suits, SLAM suits, class-action suits, etc., from which they profit greatly if they win, at relatively little cost to themselves — but they impose a great cost on the legal system and society. Institute fines on lawyers for losing civil cases to reimburse the legal system costs, with enhanced penalties for suits the courts determine were egregious.

I’m sure other DP contributors have more suggestions, undoubtably better. My intent is to torture them, to make their miserable, pathetic existence so painful that no respectable person would wish to be one.
