On the Birther Controversy
Bill Quick

You know, the rumors that there is something about Obama’s birth certificate that will demonstrate he wasn’t born in Hawaii, or somesuch.

I don’t really believe there is any truth to that thesis. So why do I want Obama to allow the original birth certificate – which has never been seen in public – to be released so we can all see it?

Because he apparently doesn’t want to do that. And that is more than enough reason for me to demand that he do so. I don’t believe politicians should have any rights to privacy. If they want our votes, and want us to delegate massive powers over us to them, they should not be permitted any secrets from us.

If they want privacy, the answer is simple: Stay in the private sector. But the minute you come parading to me begging for my vote, and power over me, you’re fair game.

Show us the damned birth certificate, Obama!

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

  1. Elizabeth, this could easily be put to rest. Show us the birth certificate. Aren’t you curious why hopey/changey refuses to do so?

According to Hawaii officials, the original 1961 long form certificate was personally examined by Health Department employeees in 2008 and is in their files.

Meaningless, as there’s a Hawaii state law that allows those born outside of Hawaii – including in foreign countries – to obtain Hawaiian birth certificates.

    .

According to Hawaii officials, the original 1961 long form certificate was discarded in 2001.

You make it sound like no copy is available. The paper copies were converted to electronic. It is available. Now, why would you make that assertion?

  2. Oh, and one more. How can the health dep. officials examine a “long form certificate” in 2008 that was discarded in 2001?

I’m curious as to what you are trying to say here.

  3. I’m curious as to what you are trying to say here.

She’s saying exactly what you just pointed out – that one way or another, “Hawaiian officials” are lying. Either the cert was destroyed in 2001, in which case they’re lying about examining it in 2008. Or, they did examine it in 2008, in which case they are lying about it being destroyed in 2001.

Obama, set these dichotomies to rest! Release your original birth certificate to the public!

  4. Barry, first what they want to see is the original, not a copy. Copies, even(especially) electronic ones, can be altered. Second how could they have examined the original in 2008 if it was discarded(not destroyed?*) in 2001? Certainly sounds like someone is lying.
My personal take is that there is something unrelated to his eligibility that he doesn’t want known.

*How many illegals have Hawaiian birth certificates?

  5. Heh. I played around too long and missed his second comment.
Still leaves an interesting question(OT) as to why they “discard” originals instead of destroying them. Their dumpsters must be a treasure trove for snoops and ID thieves.

  6. Barry, first what they want to see is the original, not a copy.

Do records offices keep actual paper records that long? When I applied for my first passport in ’97, the document that I received from the SF Dept of Health was a photocopy of what I suspect was a microfilm record.

  7. Genes, I think Barry understands all this.

Yes. However, I was somewhat confused as to what Elizabeth was saying. At first I thought she (she, I guess) was just giving the official hopey/changey line that all was settled (kinda like global warming, hmmm). After my first comment I reread and discovered a slight problem in that case. I think Bill was correct, Elizabeth was pointing out one of the many problems.

  8. Do records offices keep actual paper records that long?

My understanding is that prior to the computer era, they were converted to microfiche in most places. Small towns, maybe less so.

  9. I like your reason for wanting to see it, Bill.
Because he apparently doesn’t want to do that. GREAT!!1!!
I think the problem obumble has with showing it is that on the line for father’s name it has “father unk”.

  10. I don’t think that there’s any fire here, but the smoke is getting thick.

Having read some of the more technical discussions of why Barry is/isn’t a citizen, I’m pretty much sure that it’s a non-issue, regardless of what the birth certificate says. How do foreign born babies of the military get granted citizenship? It was conferred by legislative process, and rightly so I might add. And while it’s possible that Barry might fall outside one of the parent residing in the US for 10 years (or something) technical aspects, it’s something that could easily be remedied legislatively, and done so retroactively. Because there isn’t any way that the Democrats would possibly allow Obama’s presidency to be ruled null and void. They would do whatever it takes, even in the worst case-for Obama- scenario. And that makes his refusal to display the original document even more puzzling, until you realize that he’s an inexperienced leftist naif with delusions of grandeur who has never been questioned once in his entire life until now. Our questions simply aren’t worthy of his notice.

  11. There is almost certainly nothing to it. But it does represent a first fumbling effort to apply Alinsky Tactics to the Left. If nothing else, watching Obama choke on the gandersauce has entertainment value.

  12. I think I’ve figured out why Obama won’t release his original birth certificate.

His people, together with the MSM, have done a superb job of painting anybody who has any questions about Obama’s birth as being right-wing whacko nutcases. By refusing to release the cert, he encourages people who do have questions about him to, in effect, smear themselves as Wingnutzs!!!. Releasing the cert would end the controversy entirely. Which is why he won’t do it, because anybody who enters into the Birther controversy immediately marginalizes himself.

Far from being the act of a political naif, it is a fairly sophisticated political tactic.

Occum’s Razor (paraphrase – never attribute to malevolence that which can be explained by stupidity) I don’t mean Obama, I mean his handlers, the have shown unbelievable stupidity in handling almost everything so far.

  14. I mean his handlers, the have shown unbelievable stupidity in handling almost everything so far.

Yeah, that’s why a black guy with no experience came screaming out of nowhere first to defeat the heir-presumptive to the Dem nomination, Hillary Clinton, and then win the White House by the largest margin since the first George Bush.

Don’t make the mistake of underestimating this guy. He and his people are dangerous and effective.

  15. His handlers are top-level operatives; never forget that!!!

The bumbling flows from Barry (sans teleprompter) and appointees. His handlers have a problem with appointees in that they must be less intelligent/competent/knowledgeable than Barry himself. This is a tall order leading to the likes of Biden and Gibbs.

  16. Far from being the act of a political naif, it is a fairly sophisticated political tactic.

It’s been mentioned elsewhere and is entirely possible. I don’t subscribe to it however. Long before the MSM/Hopeychangey created the wacko birthers, hopey/changey would not show us the birth certificate. This might be long term political planning, but I doubt it. I simply believe he is hiding something. What, I don’t know.

As far as I’m concerned, if one of your parents is an American citizen, then you should be as well. So, within the specifics of the law or not, I’m not really concerned about his status with respect to the birth certificate.

Doesn’t matter, Barry. If it turned out that Obama’s birth cert did in some way disqualify him from running, then the issue becomes that he ran and deliberately concealed information that would have disqualified him.

I would not want that kind of man in the White Horse House.

  18. Doesn’t matter, Barry.

True, it was just my personal opinion. If he wasn’t a citizen, by law, then he deceived us and all hell should break loose. It won’t. The MSM will cover for him…
