Quaff That Kool-Aid! : The Other McCain

Bicker and argue over GOP candidates all you care to, but never lose sight of the ultimate truth that This. Joker. Must. Go.

The way I’m interpreting this is: “Smear and destroy the other GOP candidates all you want, but if my guy is the last one standing, forget all the smears and destruction and vote for my guy because Obama must go.”

In other words, I detect a hint of nervousness. Maybe scorched earth isn’t really the way to go?

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian with conservative leanings on most issues, except on many traditionally conservative social issues, where my stance would be regarded as hopelessly liberal by most social conservatives. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

Stop picking on Stacy! I know you’re both like-minded overall and it’s just friendly needling, but you’re relentless, Bill. Relentless!

Ahem, the by-line pretty clearly states ‘Smitty’.
Yes, I trash Romney, but will still support that wax figure if he crawls out of Tampa with the nomination in August.

This ties in to my belief that it’s not only important that you win…but how you win, as well. My worldview is my own, of course, but it’s the product of spending most of my adult life in the military.

We, of course, play to win. Contrary to what most people seem to think, we believe if we’re fighting “fair”, we’re fighting wrong. The idea is to make it as unfair a fight as possible…in our favor.

That doesn’t make it acceptable, though, to fight in a way that’s contrary to our (as a nation) core beliefs. It’s hard to explain to people who haven’t walked the walk (and I honestly don’t know people here well enough to know who is what) but some of us really believe in the “Duty, Country, Honor” ethos.

I’ve heard some pretty impressive stuff about Romney (I’m thinking of a story linked to Snopes about shutting down Baines to search for a colleague’s missing daughter). I’ll admit it raises my opinion of him…as a human being. As President? Not so much.

I’m disgusted with the way he’s been running his campaign. It’s obvious to me he wants to be President to a degree that I feel is “uncomfortably too much”. He comes across to me as smarmy when he tries to distance himself from his PACs….and SuperPACs.

For him, it’s unfortunate that I remember how Gingrich started his campaign and I can clearly recall who it was who went negative…and personal.

In my opinion, he is devoid of honor in that I perceive it to be overshadowed by his ambition.

I don’t believe it’s good enough just to get someone with the right letter after their name in office.

In many ways, I argue that Obama was conservatives greatest gift. His actions are so extreme that it makes it far easier to see the direction we are (were?…I can hope) headed. That’s why I wouldn’t see it as the end of the world if, in the event Romney is determined to be the Republican candidate…he didn’t make it.

As long as whoever is in that office is neutered (even partially) by the other two branches of government, it will be far less damaging to us, in the long run, than having a poster-boy in office that everyone can point to and say “See? They’re all the same!”.
