Not nearly as far fetched as it sounds, Europe’s indigenous birth rates are plummeting and Muslim immigration continues unchecked.

Several decades? He really thinks it will take that long?

Actually, I think it will never happen. Europe has a long history of dealing with what it regards as indigeneous threats. Ovens and camps tend to be involved. Look what happened to the last ethnic/religious incursion from the middle east.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian with conservative leanings on most issues, except on many traditionally conservative social issues, where my stance would be regarded as hopelessly liberal by most social conservatives. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

    Historically, you’re quite correct.

Unfortunately for Europe, they no longer believe in themselves or their future, by and large. They’ve been told repeatedly that Western Civilization is evil and corrupt and is destroying the planet. They just want to retire before it all goes to hell.

A few years ago the good people of France headed off to vacation during a heat wave and left 1,000′s of their parents and grandparents to die alone. That level of self absorption and avoidance of sacrifice can not be overcome.

Their militaries are for the most part government employment plans, with budget cuts every year to pay for social spending. There are some elite military units, and some forces that have actually seen combat in the last five years, but total less than 5,000 per country, other than Britain.

Any efforts to drive out Muslims by non-governmental groups will be decried by the media and suppressed by the government.

I expect that there will be an ad hoc formation of large self governing enclaves of Europeans and Muslims, with large scale population movement along the lines of India’s partition after WW II. Their interaction will be random, chaotic, and violent at the edges. The European enclaves will shrink until at some point they simply assume dhimmi status to survive.

Cultural suicide, with following generations looking at the monuments like barbarians wandering around a sacked Rome.

Or not. I confess to feeling very cynical and depressed this week. I would love to be proved wrong. I will probably live to see how it all turns out.

Maybe you’ll get lucky George and jump off a bridge first because you’re so depressed about it.

OK, whoa, don’t jump, it was just a joke. I would never even have made a joke except I know that kind of cynical depression. It doesn’t lead to thoughts of suicide, but rather, to thoughts of shutting out the world, ignoring everything, and taking up gardening, studying mathematics, building a castle out of popsicle sticks, or some other such distraction that will allow complete obliviousness to the crashing of the world around you (up to the point where you are told to choose between paying jizyah or undergoing a beheading, at which time the obliviousness becomes impossible to maintain – but lo, you can choose the beheading and obliviousness to the disaster will soon be yours again).

Not to worry. When I’m cynical and depressed, I want to throw OTHER people off bridges. Other than playing Skyrim, I intend to stay fully engaged in the world.

As for the jizyah, I will have died on my feet long before being told to kneel and choose. I’ve been face to face with death on more than one occasion over the years. We are not strangers and I neither fear nor welcome him.

Remember the Twenties in Germany? All tired out, no more belief in Germany, Europe, or anything else. Then the Thirties, and the collapse. Except….

As it turned out, Germany wasn’t…quite…done yet.

    I’m expecting something similar.

Let me know if you see some guy come riding up on a white horse. Speaking French or German, most likely.
